No prior experience necessary - just a desire to explore your creativity!
Our workshop participants have been from all walks of life - designers, accountants, lawyers, artists, Yoga teachers, chef’s and teachers. But they all share a common desire to spend time using their hands creatively.
This workshop is specifically designed to introduce you to the basic techniques of frame loom weaving. Each student will be given a loom and guided through the creative process by first exploring ideas of colour, texture, and composition followed by a step-by-step breakdown of warping the frame, basic weave techniques and finishing. The workshop will involve experimenting with a mixture of natural, industrial and found materials through the weaving process.
All materials provided and each student will take home a set of comprehensive notes as well as their very own finished woven wall hanging!
The workshop is led by Lay of the Land’s Kari Cahill + Hazel Mc Cague. Hazel studied textile design at NCAD, specialising in woven textiles. She has designed fabrics specific to the aviation industry. She experiments with natural and found materials through the medium of weave. Kari Cahill graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from NCAD. Her practice is focused towards curation, sculptural installations, and 2D work depicting the landscapes surrounding her.
